Now back in a band doing cover stuff and having a laugh.

Keeping away from the Amp
Following on from breaking with one band... and the speed that I started with another.... I've been staying well away from Bandamp until today, which was the day of our first studio rehearsal (it went really well... although 3 and a bit hours of singing and playing has left me seriously tired!!!). We gave ourselves 3 weeks to learn 30 songs, so it was practise, practise practise.
Now it'll be another few songs to learn over the next 2 weeks or so, which means I'll be away from here for a bit longer.
That said.... it's great to be learning and rehearsing properly again

Update
Well, up until last Thursday I was in a band.... and now I'm not (quite!)
I intend to be moving in a slightly different direction, perhaps still doing covers, but including my own music too. Although I want to be in a 3 piece (actually my ideal would be a four piece with keys, bass, drums & me with everyone able to sing) I can do the stuff on my own... it's just not as much fun!!!
Hot on the tails of the Euro Bandamp get together at the Eddy Fest in Suffolk, having played twice at that event, I'm amazed at how I enjoyed doing the acoustic stuff (thanks for letting me join you Graham
). Because of this, I've found a few acoustic clubs locally to me, and will be going out to listen to what they have to offer; I'll do some of the open mic stuff too perhaps.
I have no idea what people listen to acoustically... so this should be a really interesting experience

Phew - it's been a while
Been working, been rehearsing, been playing, been working some more.
Should now be back for another round of critical reviews
and I may get around to recording again - who knows
See y'all out there in the cyber-world BandAmpers

Mustang Sally - Cover
This is an example of one of the things I've been up to; as the title says, it's Wilson Pickett's "Mustang Sally" recorded by my band. It's a first mix, done via some (reasonable) headphones, so sorry if it's a bit off
The lead vocals, guitar and bass were recorded live and in one take to a backing track that I created. The drums were played too, but not recorded in the mix (cos they're just too tough to get right in my garage/rehearsal room); they were added post recording using Cubase's LM-7.
Oh, and this was recorded on a laptop too...

Coming Back
I thought I'd celebrate coming back to BandAmp by uploading a song. I't a simple ditti that really started as a practise for prgramming the drums. Musically, this is a play around in A - so far this is what I've got.
I do plan to add vocals, but for some reason words escape me at the moment, so there are no lyrics written.
Let me know what you think

Where does the time go?!!!
It's been literally months since I've been on BandAmp... it seems hard to believe. In fact, it's been so long that there are loads of new names and some very good music posted on here. And because of that, I have to ask... what are the real mega-threads on here - stuff that will knock my socks of, and have me tapping away again at the keyboard (computer, not instrumental) - where do I go to catch up on 5 months of the Amp?
Any thoughts anyone?
Oh, and for those that wondered... no, I'm not dead (and I've not been in prison either lol

Well, this is a cover! (The original is by Matchbox 20)
It started out as a backing track that I was doing for myself... then progressed onto a backing track for my band (which is now a 3 piece), and then finally I thought I may as well complete it by adding my vocals and guitar!
At the moment, I'm spending so much of my time working on the band material that I rarely have time to complete any of my own stuff... hence posting this - thought you could have a sample of what I've been up to.
Comments would be great.
Vote if you feel it deserves it.

Drums & Mics 'n' stuff
Having posted on one of SilentSlaughter's threads (Sound System HELP!!) I mentioned about mic-ing up a drum set with 3 mics. This led to a post by Denis, who casually mentioned that he'd use just 2 mics; one for the kick, and another overhead for everything else!
For me, I use three microphones: one for the kick drum; one under the cymbals pointing at the toms; one under the cymbals and pointing at the snare. They're all unidirectional dynamic mics... nothing special, and they're used purely for a little sound reinforcement and to help recording live too (turned up much higher through the bus I send to my little recording gizmo!)
So my question to all of those that have, do, and can mic up a drum set for a live performance (we're not talking recording here) is....
How many mics do you use for your live drum sound, and where are they placed?
(Yes, if you want to be pedantic then that's two questions I know!)
